Club Championship Points
Club Championship Points – over 18 years of age - maximum points on best 16 point scoring races.
Here is a brief explanation of how the Club Championship works.
For a fuller explanation, see David Brooke-Taylor at one of the club runs.
Database: A database is kept with details from each runner’s membership form, plus a code for their age group. This is updated at the beginning of each year to ensure every member is in the correct age group. Previous years results are stored elsewhere, and cleared from the current database.
After each run, the database manager receives the list of names as shown on the Townsville Road Runners website.
Each name in turn is entered into a form (the database program supplies a list to select from – type in “H” and all the ‘H”s are listed). The position number is then entered into the form. Placings are for paid-up members only - if the fourth person home is not a member, their result is ignored, and the next member home is counted as fourth.
After all runners have been entered, the program allocates the points (150 for first, 149 for second, down to 1 point for 150th or lower).
The database stores a list of every placing in every run by every member. Unfortunately, due to the time involved in data entry, we have not been storing times in the database for some years.
At the end of the year, the database manager calls up a list of all those who have run more than 16 runs. For each of these runners, all their runs are listed in order, and their worst runs over 16 are marked as non-counting. Thus only the best 16 runs for each member are counted towards the club championship.
Another program (query) lists the totals for the whole database, or for selected groups.
In each age group, the same points totals are used to find first second and third.
Note: age groups are: Under 18; 19 to 29; 30 to 39; 40 to 49; 50 to 59; 60 to 64; 65 and over.
Club points for the last 10 runs (up until the Bushland Beach All Terrain run) are shown below.
